D.C. TUITION ASSISTANCE

Our DC Tuition Assistance Program is designed to help you succeed, whether you're looking to advance your career, switch to a new field, or pursue a new passion. With our support, you can:

Eligibility: 

  • You must be a current DC Air National Guard member and have 1 year of service remaining from the last day of when the course gets paid by DC TA Funds
  • You must be qualified in an AFSC
  • You must be a satisfactory participant (no UIF, no current or pending adverse actions as a result of an investigation)
  • Note: AGR Airmen requesting DC TA must first utilize Federal TA via AFVEC. If ineligible, documentation must be forwarded from the Force Development Office in FSS prior to submission of DC TA. 

Steps to Apply

Plan Ahead! Your DC Tuition Assistance Package must be submitted NLT 30 days prior to your class start date. One of the files (TA Application) requires your Commander to first sign, so recommend starting NLT 45 days prior to your class start date. 

  1. Check Eligibility (status and criteria below)
  2. Complete Your Application: 
  3. Review your application: 
    • TA Application signed by both you and your commander?
    • DC TA Statement of Understanding signed by you?
    • Do you have the Cost verification and Degree plan included? 
    • Are you submitting at least 30 days before the class is starting?
  4. Email the completed/signed application with all files (from step 2) to Maj Chelsi Johnson at chelsi.johnson@us.af.mil NLT 30 days PRIOR to your class start date to avoid your application getting rejected.

DC Tuition Amount

$12,500 per Fiscal Year

$12K for Tuition, $500 for Authorized Fees

Authorized Uses

Can use it no more than once for each degree level:

  • Academic Cert
  • Associate's degree
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree
  • Doctoral Degree
  • Continuing Education Units (CEU)
  • Undergrad or Grad Prereqs (Bachelor's or Master's)

Unauthorized Uses

  • Lower or Lateral degrees if DC TA funding previously used to obtain that level of degree (exceptions in NGDC-CG memo)
  • Certifications
  • Licensure

  • Most Common Reasons Applications Get Rejected?
    • Submissions less than 30 days prior to class start date can result in getting your application rejected
    • Incomplete applications (missing signatures, class information, etc. will result in getting your application rejected
  • How does DC TA Get Funded?

    DC TA is funded through the annual DC Budget and Financial Plan for DC residents & through DC appropriations bill for non-residents and dispersed based on availability.

  • What Grades do I need to Maintain While Using DC TA?

    Maintain 2.0 undergraduate of 3.0 for graduate GPS (failing grades are subject to recoupment)
